Ivan Martin & Jerry Kropff - 30- and 40-pound Blue Catfish

Founding Grand Fishing Report guide Ivan Martin and Jerry Kropff were on Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees that week with rod and reel — and put a pair of big Blue Catfish in the boat: a 30-pounder and a 40-pounder.

Lee Jeffery submitted the shot for the old site’s Featured Photo of the Week for December 30, 2003.

That week on Grand: the guide reports from around then said the winter Blue Cat bite was strong — boats were landing roughly 20–30 big Blues a trip, with some topping 40 pounds. The lake was sitting around 743 with water temperatures in the low 40s. (Week context from the reports, not details of this particular catch.)
