Who's listening
KGVE reaches farther than people realize. Listeners hear the Grand Lake Outdoor Report as far as Pittsburg, Kansas, down in Pryor, out past Vinita and sometimes in Joplin. The GrandFishingReport.com Facebook group is likely over 18,000 members, and far more people read reports than post them. The guides post most of them, along with some regulars. Jeff would love more folks to post a picture or short story about what they caught and what they caught it on. Keep it simple: no need for the cove details, and nobody has to give up their honey hole.
Lake conditions
Things are settling back down. A big snowmelt and rain brought a nice inflow for a few weeks, but that's pretty well gone, and there's just intermittent generation at the dam. The upper end got pretty stained. Around Shangri-La the water is already turning back to Grand Lake's normal blue-green.
Twin Bridges
People are catching fish up at Twin Bridges, which historically fishes well on the Spring River and right at the park. Don't overlook the stretch between the railroad bridge and the Spring River and Neosho bridges. It's a great staging point where fish decide which river to run, depending on which has more flow, and sometimes they come down one river and turn up the other. It can be fantastic for Crappie and White Bass.
Catfish / bank fishing
The hole in front of the Twin Bridges boat ramp is one of the deepest on the Neosho River and a great wintering hole for Catfish. A lot of Blue Catfish are caught there every year, many off the bank, if you can put up with a little mud. Bernice State Park is another great bank spot. On days windy enough to blow your hat off, big Blue Cats move up on the shallow flats in front of the park, and casting rods out there can be a real good time.
Paddlefish
Spoonbill fishing is fantastic. The push of fresh water moved fish up the lake, and they've settled and staged around the Gray's Ranch area, a bit farther up than before. Like the White Bass, they're waiting for a little more inflow before making a big move. Always use a barbless hook and read the regulations on how many fish you can keep, because they can change. Game wardens do a fantastic job protecting the Paddlefish resource.
Luck E Strike
Jeff's partner Toby Keith passed away a few weeks ago, but Luck E Strike in Greenwood, Arkansas, keeps moving forward. Wholesale dealer requests are coming in from all over the country. Lucky Bugs, Swimming Minnows, tri-color jig heads, American-made crankbaits and rattle baits, and Jimmy Houston Redman spinnerbaits are starting to come into stock. Until dealers pick them up, LuckEStrike.com is the best place to find them. Jeff plans Grand Lake videos showing how the products work, like he did with Flea Fly and Team Catfish.
