Booking winter Spoonbill and late-winter/spring Crappie trips — colder water stacks Paddlefish.
Lake / shad
Finally cold; lake mid-40s heading to low 40s / upper 30s. Gulls diving; expect shad kill to start. Bumper shad crop last year made summer fishing tougher (Haydn). Teens at night / upper 30s days keep dropping water temp.
Hunting
Rut done; bucks bachelored, feed-to-bed. Big deer often shed first couple weeks of January. Duck hunting good last week and a half on farm ponds; when ponds freeze, lake hunting picks up — gadwall, mallards, some teal; lake birds include hooded mergansers, shovelers, geese. Season ends ~Jan 28–31. Owen trapping: coyotes, bobcats, coons, possum (~5 coyotes, 2 bobcats so far).
