Lake / weather
Corps shows Grand about 0.4 ft high with roughly 300 cfs out; inflows slowing hard into dog-days pattern. Next week: mid-90s highs, heat indexes over 100, light winds, sunny skies, warm nights — thermocline weather. Once generation settles and dissolved oxygen stacks around the usual 25–28 ft band, fish that have been spread through the column get more targetable above that layer. Long-range tease of cooler (maybe dry) air early August would be welcome.
Bass
Nice Bass showing in Serenity Point’s Monday-night tournament photos — solid local anglers. Doug at Serenity Point runs the event; Jeff and Owen fished it years ago; Bill Douglas (Chicken Ellis) and Jeff have talked about jumping in again.
Paddlefish
Heavy demand for Haydn’s Spoonbill trips; he’s taking some time off Crappie for them. Second boat now — one at Shangri-La, one at the house — running upper-lake trips closer to Twin Bridges with a bimini for clients watching live scope while he works the bow. Strong photos on Williams Guide Service Facebook.
White Bass / bridges
Jeff expects White Bass on island tops around Bernice, Goat Island, Sweetwater, Governor’s Island, Shangri-La underwater islands and Patricia Island; Sailboat Bridge is a favorite this time of year (he and Jerry Croft used to catch Crappie under the bridge). Honey Creek and Bernice bridges haven’t reported much, but shade under a bridge with a breeze beats full sun.
Flathead study
ODWC has tagged Flatheads in Grand Lake — if you catch a marked fish, contact them for age/growth and movement work. Jeff calls Flatheads one of the best eating fish and the most underutilized Catfish here; ambush predators with round power tails vs the roaming forked-tail Blues and Channels. He’d like Johnson on the report someday with tag details.
Weekend tip
Hot weekend coming — fish any breeze into a shallow bank with Dinner Spinners and swimming minnows. Jeff planned a big Scrounger with a Live Motion minnow plus sample 11-inch Baby Huey and 8½-inch Sneaky Snake worms on points and brush. Visit fishlucke.com.
