History
The fishing report has been on local radio around Grand Lake for decades. Jeff would love to go back and hear the old reports from Lee, Martin and Jerry from the 1990s.
Crappie
The bite is improving. Dock fishing has been a little tough this summer, but Haydn says a lot of the 9-inch Crappie are now over 10 inches.
Catfish
There are lots of good transitions from the flats back over to Shangri-La, with ups and downs and a river channel to cross. Watch your GPS and depth: Blue Cats will tell you day to day what depth they're feeding at, and if you have a GPS track you can go back over the same trail at the depth where the active fish were. It's surprising how far off track you drift. Start in about 15 feet and drift into 40–50 feet, or with the wind the other way, start at 40–50 and drift up into 10–15 feet. Somewhere in that range you should find active fish.
Paddlefish
Not as many people snagging because it's been so hot.
Bass
Tournament numbers are down, but Doug still runs a weekly local jackpot Bass tournament (Tuesday or Thursday night) out of Serenity Point, his marina straight west of Shangri-La, where people have bought gas and swum off the dock for years. Look it up on Facebook.
White Bass
Biting really well. In the evenings, even if you're not an avid angler, troll around Shangri-La, Sweetwater, Goat Island and the islands around Sailboat Bridge. Tie a 1/16-ounce Tie2 jig with a swimming minnow above a 1/4-ounce Dinner Spinner; it stops most of the spinner's line twist, and you'll often catch two White Bass at a time. Start in about 10 feet and work into 4 or 5 feet, hitting the island points and the shallow water at Governor's Island.
